OUR STORY

HOW WE MET

It was Saturday, January 15th, 2011. MLK weekend.

Paola: I was an intern in Internal Medicine at Columbia in NYC. My fellow resident and our mutual friend, Ben Krantz, was throwing a party at his apartment. Once my girlfriends and I walked through the door of Ben's apartment and prepared ourselves cocktails, I noticed a guy with a Justin Bieber haircut and learned his name was Andrew, a dermatology resident also at Columbia. He was sweet and funny and things easily clicked. We initially became friends, yet after many months of courtship and undeniable attraction, we found ourselves in a relationship becoming best friends and in love.

 HIS PROPOSAL

It's true...we got engaged during a Star Trek Convention in Boston. It was June 21, 2014.

Paola: My mom is a true sci-fi fan and trekkie at heart. After hearing there was a Star Trek convention in Boston the week prior to my mom's birthday, we planned a family trip to celebrate her birthday in Boston. My entire family and a few cousins gathered at the convention where we met a few Klingons, wore vulcan ears, and shook hands with "Beam Me Up Scotty."  After the convention, we separated from the group and Andrew took me to his father's birthplace and first home near Harvard Square with the intention of making a home video to wish his parents a happy anniversary as June 21st was their wedding day 44 years prior.  As I sat on the stoop of the home next to Andrew looking at the video camera that was propped on top of a parked car and listening to Andrew speak, I soon discovered it was all a ruse, and in fact his proposal. He got down on one knee & gave me a ring on a peapod. I said "YES," a neighbor cheered for us in the distance, and then I received the Final Rose (aka Bachelor style).
